PMC Elections: Draft Ward Structure For Pune Municipal Corporation To Be Announced On 1st February
Pune, 30th January 2022: The draft ward structure for Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections will be announced on 1st February and objections will be invited from 1st to 14th February. The Election Commission has sent a letter to Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar in this regard, stating that it has approved the draft ward structure submitted by the PMC.
On January 20, PMC submitted the revised plan prepared with 24 changes suggested by the Election Commission. It was expected that the commission would announce the draft plan within a week, call for objections and hold a hearing on it. In an order issued by the commission two days ago, it was clarified that the ward composition would be decided first and then the lot would be drawn for reservations. After that, on 28th January a letter was sent to PMC approving the ward structure in which the draft notification indicating the boundaries will be announced on February 1.
PMC has been asked to invite objections from February 1 to 14 and on February 16 declare details of objections and then conduct a hearing on the objections till February 26. By March 2, it has to send recommendations made by the authorized officers to the Election Commission.
Average 61,000 population in each ward
- There will be 57 wards of 3 members each and one ward will have two members, thus there will be 58 wards.
- Ward No. 13 will have two members.
- Average population of the three member ward will be 61,679.
- Biggest ward will have 67,847 population and the smallest will have 55,511 population.
- Out of total 173 persons, 148 seats will be for open group. 23 Scheduled Castes and 2 Scheduled Tribes will be reserved.
- Out of 173 seats, 87 are reserved for women, out of which 12 are reserved for women belonging to Scheduled Castes and 1 for woman belonging to Scheduled Tribes.
- There will be 74 open seats for women.
- However, once the ward structure is finalized, it will be released for reservation.
