Pune, 24th June 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has undertaken a comprehensive mapping exercise to assess the existing road infrastructure and address the issue of traffic congestion in the city.

As a result of this study, approximately 700 ‘missing links’ have been identified across various roads, spanning a total distance of approximately 520 kilometers. These missing road sections range from less than 100 meters to over 1,000 meters and are primarily due to land stuck in the acquisition process. The PMC has initiated contact with individual landowners to find solutions and overcome this hurdle.

The identified missing links include areas that were recently incorporated into the PMC limits by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) in 2021. However, these areas are not yet included in the approved development plans. Additionally, there are 11 villages within the Expanded Regional Plan (ERK) whose development plans have not been made public.

Among the list of missing links, notable instances include three link roads connecting Pashan Road to Baner Road, two roads connecting Warje and Rajaram Bridge along the river, a connection across the Mula River linking Sangamwadi to Wakdewadi, and a 180-meter road linking Kondhwa Road with BG Lonkar Road near Salunke Vihar.

The PMC has acknowledged the importance of addressing these missing links to improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in the city. Efforts are underway to engage with the affected landowners and resolve the land acquisition process. By doing so, the PMC aims to facilitate the completion of these road sections and enhance the overall road network.

This mapping exercise serves as a crucial step in the PMC’s ongoing commitment to improving the city’s infrastructure and ensuring smooth transportation for its residents. By identifying and resolving these missing links, the PMC strives to create a more efficient and well-connected road network that will benefit the citizens of Pune.
