PMC to collect ashes with vacuum cleaners at Crematoriums
Pune: August 7, 2021: The Pune Municipal Corporation electric department has now decided to collect the ashes or grey powder at the crematoriums with the help of vacuum cleaners. The electric department has completed the tendering process required for it.
At the Navi Peth crematorium, the ashes are collected by the contractor workers appointed by the municipal corporation. If the ashes are not cleared on time, it can create pollution. Apparently, as many as 6075 bodies were burnt during the second wave of Covid-19. Though, now the number of deaths has reduced on an average 15 bodies come for the funeral here every day”, said the officials.
The contractor workers collect the ashes. While doing so the risk of it getting into mouth, nose and ears is high. Similarly, if there is delay in collecting it, it can prove harmful. Thus, the department has decided to collect it with the help of Industrial Vacuum cleaner.
“A quotation of 4.97 lakh were issued through which the cleaners will be bought”, said additional municipal commissioner Kunal Khemankar. He added that now the work to collect the ashes will get over within half an hour which otherwise used to take an entire day.
