PMC Ward Restructuring: Hearings on Citizens’ Objections Scheduled for September 11–12
Pune, 8th September 2025: The objections and suggestions submitted on the draft ward restructuring for the upcoming Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections will be heard on September 11 and 12. Additional Secretary of the General Administration Department, V. Radha, appointed as the authorized officer by the state’s Urban Development Department, will preside over the hearings.
The PMC prepared the draft ward structure in line with directives from the Election Commission, factoring in the merger of 32 villages into civic limits. Citizens were allowed to submit objections until September 4. According to officials, nearly 6,000 objections and suggestions were received, with 3,500 filed on the final day alone.
After reviewing the objections, V. Radha will prepare a detailed report recommending whether modifications should be made before the final ward structure is notified.
Ward Restructuring Highlights
-The upcoming PMC elections will see 165 corporators across 41 wards.
-40 wards will have four members each, while Ward 38 (Ambegaon–Katraj) will have five members.
-Earlier, 34 villages were merged into PMC, but Uruli Devachi and Fursungi were later excluded, leading to a fresh draft plan.
Political parties and aspirants are closely monitoring the process. Opposition groups have alleged that the restructuring favors the BJP and the Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction.
