Pune, 16th September 2026: A pregnant woman was allegedly assaulted and murdered at Pandare in Baramati taluka, with police saying that her gold ornaments were also stolen after the killing. Malegaon police detained the suspected accused within two hours of receiving information about the incident.

The accused has been identified as Ganesh Ramchandra Mane (26), a resident of Pandare. Sub-divisional police officer Chaitanya Kadam said the accused allegedly confessed to the crime during questioning.

A case was registered at Malegaon police station on Saturday (September 12) following a complaint by Ranjana Laxman Pawar (50), the mother-in-law of the deceased, Vaishali Pawar.

According to the police, Vaishali was found seriously injured in a room on Saturday evening. Relatives and neighbours rushed her to a hospital, but she was declared dead before treatment could begin.

Following information about the incident, Malegaon police reached the spot and launched an investigation under the guidance of assistant police inspector Kuldeep Sankpal. After examining the scene and gathering information, police suspected Mane’s involvement and detained him for questioning.

Police said the accused allegedly attacked Vaishali with a hammer before assaulting her. When she resisted, he allegedly strangled her with a towel, resulting in her death. He then allegedly removed and took away a gold pendant from her neck and anklets from her feet.

Mane was arrested and produced before a court, which remanded him in police custody until Wednesday (16th September).
