Prison Dept To Extend Video Calling Service For Foreign Nationals Lodged in Maharashtra Jails

Pune 6th July 2023: The Prison Department has issued an order to extend the video calling facility to the foreign nationals lodged in the various prisons of Maharashtra. An official notification in this regard was issued by the Additional Director General of the Prison Department on Tuesday.

 

The video calling facility was already available for the prisoners in the state but it was not provided to the foreign nationals. Now with the new ammendment in the rule, they will also be provided the facility.

 

The prison department has also clarified that the decision to provide this facility will not be applicable to the prisoners of Pakistan, Bangladesh and those booked for terrorism related cases.

 

According to the officials, a total of 637 foreign nationals are lodged in the various prisons of Maharashtra. The facility will help the prisoners to communicate with their lawyers and family members. It will also help them get proper legal help to fight their cases in the court.
