PSPB Hockey Tournament: BPCL land back-to-back titles; ONGC finish third
Pune, 9th March 2026: Defending champions Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) completed a back-to-back triumph winning the 41st PSPB Inter-Unit Hockey Tournament at the Major Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium, Nehrunagar-Pimpri, here late Sunday night.
On the final day, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) got the better of last year’s runners-up Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) 3-1 to top the Inter-Unit hockey championship.
After playing out a goalless first half, BPCL were first to take the lead when Manmeet Singh (44”) found the goal (1-0) after converting a penalty-corner. Three minutes later, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) pulled the match onto levels when Affan Yosuf (47’) made it 1-1.
Thereafter, two goals by BPCL’s skipper Devindra Walmiki (49’) and the other by Sudeep Chirmako (57’) landed BPCL the title.
In the third place play off, Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) got the better of Engineers India Limited (EIL) 2-0.
Both goals were struck by Bikash Toppo (38’, 55’) to complete the score-line.
Later, the prizes were given away by the Chief Guest of the day Deepak Jain, Chief General Manager (Sport), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).
