Donje, 9th March 2026: Five people narrowly escaped death after a tempo’s brakes reportedly failed on the Sinhgad ghat road, causing the vehicle to crash into the roadside barrier and plunge nearly 200 metres into a deep gorge. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon near the turn at the “11 Thousand Point,” below Talai Udyan.

According to officials, the occupants sensed the accident moments before the vehicle went off the road and managed to jump out of the tempo. Their timely action prevented any loss of life.

Three of the occupants sustained minor injuries, while two escaped unhurt. After receiving information about the incident, officials from the forest department, personnel from Haveli Police Station, and members of a rescue team rushed to the spot.

The rescue team brought the injured persons out of the gorge and shifted them by ambulance to a private hospital in Khadakwasla for treatment.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Santosh Todkar said the tempo had fallen into a forested area in the valley. Reaching the exact spot where the vehicle had crashed required a trek of nearly two-and-a-half hours on foot.

When the rescue team reached the location, no one was found inside the vehicle as the occupants had already jumped out. The tempo was badly damaged in the accident, officials said.
