Pune, June 4, 2020: Cyclone Nisarga has disrupted the electricity supply in different parts of the city for over 36 hours. Because of the gusty winds and heavy rainfall, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) faced a heavy loss in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad areas. As per their calculation around 1,440 electric poles of high and low pressure were damaged in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Maval, Khed, Junnar and Ambegaon talukas.

“However, the MSEDCL engineers and staff worked continuously, and tried to resume electricity supply in 24 hours in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and the rural areas. Due to heavy rains, the water clogged the underground cables and disrupted electric supply. The power supply was later resumed in some parts of the city,” said MSEDCL Pune spokesperson Nishikant Raut.

In Pune, as a tree fell on an electric wire, as many as 45 high and low pressure poles have been damaged. The electric supply was resumed in a phased manner. Due to water-logging and the work of removing of trees from poles and underground cables, the power supply in Ambegaon, Sahakarnagar and Marketyard areas which includes Janta vasahat, Baner, Fortune Srishti, Fortune Shubham in Yevalewadi, Ganga Village in Hadapsar, Viman nagar and Vishrantwadi Societies was disrupted on Thursday. The electricity supply was resumed late evening in these societies, and it is expected that the power supply will resume across the city by night. Out of 85 feeder pillars, 84 have been repaired, and 47 transformers will be repaired soon.

Similarly, electric poles are damaged at around 45 places in Pimpri-Chinchwad and Bhosari. At four places, the transformers have been damaged, and due to this, 112 feeders stopped electric supply. Till afternoon, the work of resuming power supply was on war footing in societies of Hinjewadi, Wakad, Kharlwadi, Pimple Saudagar. It is expected that by the late night the power will resume in these areas as well
