Chakan, 27th February 2024: Two youths brutally murdered a seventeen-year-old by crushing him with a stone around 11:30 pm on Monday. The assailants attempted to share a video of the gruesome act on social media.

The victim was previously involved in a murder case in Kanersar. One of the two accused has already been booked, shedding light on the disturbing trend of increasing crimes involving minors in the region.

Chakan has witnessed a surge in juvenile crimes, with minors implicated in six murders already. The crimes span various locations, including the Chakan Industrial Estate and Mahalunge area. The prevalence of juvenile crimes is becoming a significant challenge for law enforcement.

The perpetrators of murders in Chakan, including those in the fort area, Medankarwadi Balaji Nagar, PWD premises, and Rohkal Phata, have all been minors.

Chakan, home to an increasing number of migrants from different parts of the country, is currently in a state of semi-urbanization. The prevalence of “easy money” has attracted working-class individuals to the area. Juveniles, skipping schools and colleges, are forming groups, friend circles, and gangs, actively participating in social media activities.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Rajendrasinh Gaur, acknowledged the involvement of minors in serious crimes, especially murders, in the Chakan Industrial Area and surrounding areas. The police are actively engaged in efforts to train and guide juveniles, aiming to deter them from a life of crime.

The disturbing trend of juvenile crime, coupled with the influence of social media, poses a significant challenge for law enforcement and the community in Chakan and Mahalunge areas.
