Maval, 7th March 2023: An incident has come to light where after playing Holi, a young man went to the Indrayani river to wash his hands and feet and died by drowning. The incident took place on Tuesday (7th March) afternoon at Varale in Maval taluka.

Jaideep Purushottam Patil (21), a resident of Tarkhed, Pachora District Jalgaon, drowned in the river bed. According to the information provided by Senior Police Inspector Ranjit Sawant, he was studying in the third year at Dr DY Patil engineering college.

On Tuesday afternoon, around 12:30 pm, seven to eight students played Holi. After that, everyone went to wash their hands and feet in the Indrayani riverbed in the Varale area. While washing his hands and feet, Jaideep Patil’s foot slipped, and he drowned. His friend Sharad Shivaji Rathod informed the Talegaon MIDC police station.

Police Inspector Ranjit Sawant, Police Sub-Inspector Kondibhau Valkoli, Police Constable Yuvraj Waghmare, Sachin Kachole, Shivaji Bangar, Wildlife Guard Maval founder Nilesh Garade, and their team reached the spot. After two hours of searching for the drowned student with the help of a boat, the body was pulled out from the riverbed.

Speaking about this, Senior Police Inspector Ranjit Sawant said that students come to the Indrayani river basin to bathe or swim. Due to the steep slope of the river bed, there is an increase in incidents of foot slip and drowning. Every year 15 to 20 dead bodies are found in the riverbed at Kundmala Indori. Such incidents can be avoided if youth restrain themselves and move ahead cautiously.
