Pune: 40 FIRs Registered Against Hawkers for Blocking Footpaths and JM Road, FC Road
Shivajinagar, 2nd March 2026: Deccan Gymkhana police registered 40 FIRs over the weekend against stall operators and hawkers for obstructing traffic and pedestrians by illegally occupying footpaths and carriageways in several parts of the city.
The action was taken on Saturday and Sunday across JM Road, FC Road, Bhandarkar Road, Shirole Road, Karve Road, Khilarewadi Road, and areas near Kamla Nehru Park, where vendors were found blocking public movement.
Senior Police Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar said repeated warnings issued to hawkers over the past few weeks were ignored. “They were cautioned earlier, but the violations continued. FIRs have now been registered and the cases will be forwarded to the court,” he said.
Police officials said the vendors were selling goods on footpaths and parts of the carriageway, causing inconvenience to pedestrians and disrupting vehicular traffic. “Such encroachments pose a serious risk and can lead to accidents,” Nimbalkar added.
The FIRs were registered under Sections 285 and 287 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deal with danger or obstruction in public ways and negligent conduct involving fire or combustible materials.
