Pune: 55-Year-Old Koregaon Park Resident Cheated Out of Rs 20 Lakh in Online Dating Scam

Pune, 18th April 2024: A case of defrauding an elderly man of Rs. 20 lakh through a dating site has been uncovered. Rahul Rosa, a 55-year-old resident of Koregaon Park, complained to the Koregaon Park Police Station on Wednesday (17th April).

According to the police, the fraud occurred between January 9 and March 22. The complainant met Neha Sharma on a dating website, and they began communicating regularly. Neha then informed the complainant about an investment opportunity in Capital Gold and persuaded him to invest.

Initially, the complainant invested Rs. 50,000. Encouraged by apparent profits, Neha convinced him to invest a total of Rs. 20 lakh 53 thousand over time. When the complainant attempted to withdraw the money, he was unable to do so. Neha then demanded further payments from him. Realizing he had been deceived, the complainant reported the case to the police.

A case of fraud has been registered under the Information Technology Act of 2000. Police Inspector Ashwini Satpute is leading the ongoing investigation.
