Pune,15th May 2022: On the occasion of Maharashtra Day, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) had launched an E- Bus service to Sinhgad fort from the base which is getting a good response.

However, on 13th May, the bus no. E-11 met with an accident while returning to the base from Sinhgad fort, which led to growing concerns about passenger safety. The driver could not anticipate the turn, which resulted in the bus hitting the safety railing of the ghat road. The passengers had a narrow escape.

The forest department, Public Works Department (PWD) and PMPML have taken cognizance of this and to prevent any such mishaps in the future they are conducting a joint inspection. Meanwhile, some emergency measures are being taken on the ghat section to secure the road.

The forest department had banned private vehicles on Sinhagad fort citing the reason for rising pollution. So, the citizens have to opt for an E- Bus to reach the fort.

Why did the PMPML E-Bus crash?

• Three kilometres narrow ghat up to the fort

• The length of the bus is long

• There are sharp turns with rapid descent while coming downhill from the fort

• There are no convex mirrors at the turn points

• Difficulty in seeing vehicles coming from afar

• Sharp turns at two points of the ghat section

In the event of an accident in the future, emergency services should be provided immediately. But, at present, the fort lacks all kinds of essential services, such as ambulances, towing vehicles, and fire brigade. The passengers have demanded that the Forest Department should first provide these services, and only after that the E- bus service should be resumed.
