Pune: After Hadapsar Officers, Six Dapodi Policemen Suspended in Toxic Liquor Death Case
Pune, 30th May 2026: Within hours after Pune Police suspended three officers over alleged lapses linked to the toxic liquor tragedy that claimed 18 lives, the Pimpri Chinchwad Police have also taken disciplinary action, suspending six personnel attached to the Dapodi police unit.
Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey ordered the suspension of two officers and four policemen, citing negligence and failure of supervision in connection with the illicit liquor case.
Those suspended include Senior Police Inspector Vijay Waghmare of Dapodi police station, Police Sub-Inspector and investigation team head Raju Bhaskar, and police personnel Jaydeep Sonawane, Navnath Pote, Sagar Jadhav and Vishal Kale.
According to police sources, the action was taken after allegations surfaced that illegal liquor activities continued unchecked in the area. The toxic liquor case, which triggered widespread public outrage and extensive discussion on social media, also raised questions about police vigilance and enforcement.
Officials said the suspensions were intended to maintain public confidence in the police force and send a strong message against any negligence in dealing with illegal activities.
Earlier, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar had suspended three officers from Hadapsar police station following the same case. The suspended officers are Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Mogale, Assistant Police Inspector Hasina Shikalgar and Police Sub-Inspector Hasan Mulani of the crime detection branch.
The action against the Pune officers was taken on the grounds that illegal and allegedly toxic liquor was being sold within their jurisdiction without adequate preventive action being taken.
At least 18 people have died in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad after allegedly consuming liquor contaminated with methanol. Several accused, including the alleged key conspirators and suppliers, have been arrested, while investigations into the supply chain and possible administrative lapses are continuing.
