Pune, 25th March 2026: A 23-year-old student of the College of Agriculture in Pune died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment, days after he suffered an electric shock on the campus, police said.

The deceased, identified as Chaitanya Kundalik Chavan from Beed district’s Ashti, was enrolled in an agri-business management course. According to police, the incident occurred on March 14 at the college mess.

Officials said Chavan, who was studying first year MBA (Agri Business Management), had gone to drink water after dinner when he reportedly came in contact with a faulty cooler and suffered a severe electric shock. He was rushed to a private hospital, where he remained under treatment before succumbing on Tuesday afternoon.

A senior officer from Shivajinagar police station said the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination.

The Hospital officials said Chavan died at 1:11 pm on Tuesday. “The patient passed away at 01:11pm on Tuesday. The cause of death will be ascertained after post-mortem. Police were informed when we received the patient and after death for the post-mortem” the hospital authorities said.

Following the incident, students staged a protest on campus on Wednesday, alleging that complaints regarding electrical issues in the mess had been raised earlier but no corrective action was taken.
