Pune, 24th June 2021: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has agreed to give its 2.5 acres of land to the Pune Airport. This decision would help with freight traffic that has troubled the airport authority. Due to rising traffic and increasing demand for medical supplies in the lockdown, Pune Airport authority needs more space to accommodate the freight traffic.

Also, the Covishield vaccine is manufactured in Pune; hence, to speed up their delivery and prepare a plan, the Pune Airport authority needed the land.

It is learnt that the Pune Airport authority had given its proposal to the IAF three years back. However, not only the Defence Ministry was not very keen to accept but also they did not respond. It added to the troubles of the airport administration.

However, now freight traffic can be expected to increase in the upcoming future.
