Pune, 24th April 2023: Pune airport has responded to a tweet by one Arvind Iyer regarding auto drivers charging hefty parking fees at the airport.

Iyer had written on Twitter, “The auto drivers outside the gate say that they are charged a hefty parking fee of Rs 100 for two hours for parking outside the airport. This eventually gets passed on to customers. Do you really charge them? Why not develop the auto network for short distances.”

In response, the Pune airport handle stated, “There are no parking charges and these autos are parked illegally on the road outside the Airport. AAI-Pune Airport has requested the Pune Traffic Police to take action on these autos.”

Iyer further added to the conversation, highlighting the need for an arrangement for auto drivers that would allow them to go by the meter and not impact citizens with service denial. He also tagged PuneCityTraffic in his tweet.

The issue of auto drivers charging customers for parking fees at the airport is not new, and it is not unique to Pune. Many airports across the country have faced similar complaints in the past.

It remains to be seen what action Pune Traffic Police will take to address the issue of illegal parking by auto drivers outside the airport. However, Iyer’s suggestion of developing the auto network for short distances is a valid one, and it is hoped that the authorities will take note and work towards improving public transportation services in the city.
