Pune Airport Road Beautification Project to Begin in December, Says PMC Commissioner
Pune, 9th November 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a major beautification drive for the old airport road that connects Lohgaon Airport to the city. The project aims to enhance the visual appeal of one of Pune’s most important entry routes through landscaping, ornamental tree plantations, flower beds, and attractive painting.
According to PMC officials, the beautification work will be carried out under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of entrepreneur Atul Chordia. The civic body has appointed architect Umesh Vakle, an expert in city beautification, to prepare the design and implementation plan for the project.
The old airport road—passing through Nagpur Chawl, Yerwada Central Jail, Gunjan Cinema Chowk in Yerawada, and Bund Garden Bridge—is frequently used by passengers arriving from across India and abroad, including several VIPs. The PMC has therefore prioritized the maintenance and improvement of this route.
“The beautification of the old airport road will be taken up through CSR. This will add to the city’s aesthetics and improve the experience for those arriving in Pune,” said PMC Commissioner Navalkishore Ram.
As part of the plan, the first phase will focus on beautifying the old airport road, while the second phase will cover the new airport road connecting Lohgaon Airport, Viman Nagar, Ramwadi, and Yerawada.
PMC Road Department head Aniruddha Pawaskar informed that the beautification work is scheduled to begin from December 2025.
Officials said the initiative will include plantation of flowering and ornamental trees, creation of landscaped patches, and painting of walls and dividers to give the route a uniform, appealing look.
Once completed, the project is expected to significantly improve the city’s visual identity and provide a welcoming impression to visitors arriving at Pune Airport.
