Pune: Bank Officer Accused of Demanding Sexual Favor from Female Employee for Promotion

Pune, 28th July 2023: A shocking incident has come to light in Lashkar, Pune, where an officer from a prominent city bank allegedly sought a sexual favor from a female employee in exchange for a long-awaited promotion. The 38-year-old woman courageously lodged a formal complaint against the bank official at the Lashkar police station, prompting swift action from the authorities.

According to preliminary information, the accused, who holds a high-ranking position in the well-known bank situated in the camp area, has been accused of displaying lewd behavior towards female staff members. The victim, who worked under the accused, endured a distressing ordeal, including late work hours imposed on her and her colleagues. The accused would allegedly use threats of termination and subject them to verbal abuse.

The situation escalated further when the accused reportedly resorted to unwarranted physical advances, molesting the complainant and pressuring her for sexual encounters to secure the coveted promotion. The gravity of the situation led the woman to take legal action against her superior.

Acting promptly on the complaint, the Lashkar police registered a case against the bank official under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including IPC section 354A (sexual harassment), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation).

A senior officer from the Lashkar police station expressed deep concern over the allegations, stating, “The complainant is an employee at a well-known bank in the camp area, where the accused holds a supervisory role. We have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter and are committed to ensuring justice for the victim.”
