Pune: Beggars From Kharata Paltan Collect 50 kg Waste As Part Of Rehabilitation Project
Pune, 8th January 2022: On Friday, 35 beggars of Kharata Paltan under ‘Doctor for Beggars’ project and sanitary staff of Kasba-Vishrambaugwada Ward Office visited Khwaja Isamuddin Dargah lane in Shaniwar Peth and collected about 50 kg dry waste.
On this occasion, a safety kit (4 soaps, 1 sanitizer, 2 masks and 1 pair of hand gloves) and blankets were distributed to all the members of Kharata Paltan and a demonstration of proper handwashing methods was shown.
Dr Manisha Sonawane and her husband Dr Abhijeet Sonawane from Soham Trust has launched “Doctor for Beggars” project in Pune. The main objective of the project is to rehabilitate beggars and eradicate begging. The basic premise of the project is to help beggars earn their livelihood.
“The couple is responsible for the education of the children of 52 beggars. Till now, 115 families have stopped begging and are now standing on their own feet,” said Ajit Deshmukh, Deputy Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation’s solid waste management department.
During the cleaning drive, PMC’s Assistant Health Officer Dr Ketaki Ghatge, Chief Health Inspector Imamuddin Inamdar, Sunil Mohite and Ashok Bandagar, Chief Health Inspector, other health inspectors were also present.
