Pune: Birthday Bash with Knife Raises Questions About VIP Treatment at Pub in Kalyani Nagar
Reported by Mubarak Ansari
Pune, 14th April 2025: In a late-night incident that has raised concerns about law enforcement and VIP privilege, a birthday celebration involving a known DJ with a criminal background at a popular Kalyani Nagar club has come under public scrutiny. The party at Ballr Pub, reportedly featured the DJ cutting a cake with a large knife—raising eyebrows and questions about whether the same rules apply to all citizens.
Ordinary Punekars are asking: If someone cuts a cake with a sword or large knife on a public road, they’re arrested. So why is there silence when it happens in a high-profile club? With hundreds of people allegedly in attendance, the incident has triggered concerns over selective policing and lax implementation of the law.
Local residents and social media users questioned the presence of such a large crowd in the early hours and demanded action from the Pune Police Commissioner. Many pointed out the double standards, highlighting how common citizens face swift action for far lesser violations.
When contacted, Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Shelke of Yerawada Police Station, under whose jurisdiction the incident took place, stated:
“All establishments within Yerawada Police Station limits are required to close by 1:30 am. On April 14, 2025, at around 1:30 am, our marshals confirmed that Ballr Pub had been closed, and the night patrol officer verified this.
We are currently examining the CCTV footage to determine the exact time of the birthday celebration and whether a weapon was used. Appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.”
As Pune continues to grapple with issues of nightlife regulation and public safety, this incident has reignited the debate over whether enforcement varies depending on who’s involved—and whether it’s time for stricter, more transparent policing in the city’s upscale localities.
