Pune: Bus Driver Dies of Electric Shock at School; Case Filed Against Director and Staff
Kondhwa, 2nd December 2024: A bus driver employed by Sinhagad City School in Kondhwa died after receiving an electric shock on the school premises. The Kondhwa police have registered a case against the school’s director and two employees for negligence, holding them responsible for the fatal accident.
The deceased, identified as Santosh Pandurang Malvadkar (47), resided near Pisoli Gram Panchayat. A case has been filed against Sinhagad City School director Dhananjay Tukaram Mahadik, traffic supervisor Daulat Dattatray Dhok, and another staff member, Vijay Sampat Kumbhar. The complaint was lodged by Malvadkar’s wife, Sunita (40), at the Kondhwa police station, Pune City Police.
On October 18, Malvadkar was cleaning a school bus parked on the premises by spraying water when he accidentally came into contact with a live wire connected to the bus compressor. He was electrocuted and collapsed on the spot. The school staff rushed him to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Initially, the police registered the case as an accidental death. However, following Sunita Malvadkar’s complaint, the incident is now being investigated as a case of negligence. The complaint alleges that poor maintenance of the bus and negligence by the school administration led to the fatal accident.
Assistant Police Inspector Rajesh Usgaonkar, who is leading the investigation, confirmed that the complaint highlights the school’s failure to ensure proper maintenance of its vehicles. “The faulty wiring in the bus compressor has been identified as the cause of the electrocution. The roles of the accused in the maintenance oversight are under scrutiny,” Usgaonkar said.
