Vehicles coming from old Pune-Mumbai Highway through this road go to Bhau Patil Road, Aundh, Range Hills, Pune University, Shivajinagar and other places.

Around 7.30 pm yesterday, a Tata Safari car got stuck in the water on the road under the bridge. The car may have got stuck there because the depth of the water was not estimated. An air force officer, his wife and two children were trapped in this car along with their pet dog.

Due to heavy rain, there was fear that the flood water level would rise and submerge the entire car. Therefore, the officer made both the children sit on the roof of the car.

Local citizens saw the stuck car and the children on it and immediately informed the Khadki Police Station and the Fire Brigade of Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB). Police and fire department teams reached the spot at 7.44 pm and started a rescue operation.

KCB Health Superintendent Shirish Pataki said that he was informed by Rajendra Dengle of the Traffic Police Department about the incident. After that immediately a fire brigade team was sent to the location.

Three firefighters descended into the water and rescued the two children with the help of a ladder. An official carried the dog on his shoulder and pulled it out of the water. Fortunately, the car windows were open so that the husband, wife and dog inside could be taken out before the car could submerge.

A major accident was averted as everyone was able to get out safely before the water filled the car.

Firefighters Satish Kamble, Pratap Shiraswal, Pankaj Tayde, Ajinkya Walunj, Atul Tarde and Vikas Harer carried out the rescue operation.

After a relentless effort, at 8.20 pm, all four people and their dog were safely rescued.
