Pune: Chakan Farmer Arrested for Cultivating Ganja Worth 11.5 Lakh Rupees in Corn Field

Chakan, 24th April 2024: A farmer from Agarwadi near Chakan has cultivated Ganja (Marijuana) in a corn field, where he planted 66 Ganja plants. Chakan police took action and seized 23 kg of ganja worth 11 lakh 50 thousand rupees in this case. The action was taken on Monday (22nd April) afternoon.

Sadashiv Appasaheb Deshmukh (age 65, resident of Agarwadi Road, Chakan) is the farmer who cultivated the ganja. He has been arrested by the police, and Police Sub-Inspector Namdev Talwade has filed a complaint at Chakan Police Station. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Dr Shivaji Pawar, Assistant Police Inspector Prasanna Jarhad of Chakan Police Station received information about a farmer planting ganja in his field on Agarwadi Road. Accordingly, Chakan police went to Deshmukh’s farm on Chakan-Kaloos road and confirmed the report.

During the inspection, a large number of Ganja plants were found in the corn fields, totalling 66 trees with a height of eight to ten feet and weighing 23 kg. The estimated value of this seizure is 11 lakh 50 thousand rupees. Deshmukh was arrested after the ganja plants were seized. Chakan Police are currently investigating the matter.
