Pune: Chaos at VIT’s On-Spot Admission Drive Leaves Parents and Students Exhausted
Bibvewadi, 12th September 2025:An on-spot admission round for the Bachelor of Engineering (BE) programme at Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (VIT), Pune, turned into a gruelling 26-hour ordeal for applicants and their families. Students and parents, who were asked to reach the campus by 2 p.m., said the process did not begin until 11 p.m. and continued until late the following afternoon, leaving many waiting through the night on campus roads and pavements.
The extended delay triggered frustration, with several parents questioning whether the process was being handled fairly. Some alleged that the experience at VIT was far less organised than admission drives conducted by other engineering colleges in the city.
VIT, however, defended the process, attributing the delay to the overwhelming number of applicants—around 7,000 in total—and the time-consuming task of document verification.
The institute said the entire exercise was broadcast live on YouTube to maintain transparency and clarified that all government rules were followed. Officials admitted, though, that handling such a large volume of admissions “in one go” posed serious challenges.
