Pune: Chlorine Gas Leakage Incident At Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Swimming Pool in Kasarwadi Leads To Legal Action
Kasarwadi, 14th October 2023: An unfortunate incident occurred at the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar swimming pool in Kasarwadi on Tuesday (10th), involving a chlorine gas leak. Following this incident, a case has been registered against the responsible party on Thursday (12th).
A case has been filed under sections 338, 336, 284, and 287 of the Indian Penal Code against the individuals associated with Sumit Sports and Fitness Equipment, Chinchwad. The complaint was lodged by Jayshree Salve, the sports supervisor of the field office, at the Bhosari police station.
The incident unfolded on Tuesday morning when an individual lost consciousness at the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar swimming pool in Kasarwadi. Subsequently, many people began experiencing breathing difficulties.
Upon the arrival of firefighters at the scene, it was discovered that a chlorine gas leak had occurred in the pool. Chlorine gas is commonly used to treat and purify water in swimming pools. The incident resulted from a hole at the bottom of the chlorine gas cylinder, causing the gas to seep into the pool water. As a result, numerous individuals had difficulty breathing and required hospitalization.
In response to the incident, several high-ranking police officials, including Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Shinde, Additional Police Commissioner Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner Vivek Patil, Assistant Commissioner Satish Kasbe, and Senior Police Inspector Bhaskar Jadhav, visited the scene to assess the situation and provide assistance.
Municipal officials also visited the site of the incident and the hospital to interview affected citizens. A case has been registered against the responsible individuals associated with Sumit Sports and Fitness Equipment, Chinchwad, for their alleged involvement in the incident. The Bhosari police department is currently investigating the matter.
