Pune: Citizens Say PMC Ignoring Mohammadwadi And Undri Areas; No Basic Amenities Despite Paying Taxes, Residents Enraged
Pune, 21st September 2022: In response to the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) notice saying, water will be stopped from Thursday until Saturday due to some reason, the residents of the societies in Undri and Mohammadwadi have raised their voices against the PMC for not taking action on their complaints regarding water, electricity and road conditions.
Mohammadwadi and Undri comprise of residents, having 60% of Indian Armed Forces, Police, Indian Foreign Services (IFS) retired / serving personals, professionals working in corporates, and few business professionals since the year 2010 onwards along with having a few schools in the local vicinity as well as a few local municipal hospitals.
Sunil Koloti, a resident said, ‘’We have to pay the property tax with water tax as a component being charged by the PMC and if not paid regularly there are fines imposed on us. At the same time, we are not even provided proper basic amenities like water, roads, street lights, and sewage lines in our area of Mohammadwadi and Undri. When will this change occur and until when will the residents of this area suffer? ’’
Another resident, Sunny Kumar said, ‘’The picture of tankers supplying water to every society is so saddening. The road conditions are horrible. Encroachment makes the area uglier. If people fall ill from tanker water consumption, and if unfortunate fatal accidents on roads or any accident due to no streetlights take place, will the PMC take ownership? People are fed-up with the PMC.’’
Rama Jayam tweeted, ‘’Property Tax includes Sewage and Water taxes – both of which have not been provided by PMC yet, but tax demands are unforgiving!! Seems like our duty is to pay taxes as good citizens, but we don’t deserve the services we are paying for.’’
Mohammadwadi area has been neglected for far too long. It needs the attention of the PMC and related authorities to ensure basic requirements are fulfilled.
