Pune Civic Body to Start Eight CBSE Schools, Expand Model and E-Learning Education
Pune, 12th March 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening the municipal education system, including the launch of eight schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) from the upcoming academic year.
Sharing details of the plan, Additional Municipal Commissioner Pavneet Kaur said the civic administration is focusing on improving infrastructure, introducing modern learning facilities and reducing administrative burden on teachers to enhance the quality of education in civic-run schools.
In the 2026–27 municipal budget, PMC has allocated around Rs 68 crore for the construction of new school buildings and the repair and renovation of existing facilities.
The administration has also proposed developing 144 schools across 75 educational complexes as ‘Model Schools’, where students will have access to better infrastructure, improved classrooms, and modern teaching tools designed to create a stronger academic environment.
Officials said several municipal school buildings are currently in poor structural condition, making relocation necessary to ensure student safety.
The civic body has planned to shift 15 such schools by June 2026. Out of these, three schools have already been moved to permanent buildings. At certain locations, temporary classrooms such as tin-shed structures may be used until new buildings are completed.
Authorities clarified that students will not be allowed to attend classes in unsafe structures.
To reduce the administrative workload on teachers and headmasters, PMC plans to appoint around 300 data entry operators, with one operator assigned to each school.
Officials noted that teachers currently spend considerable time on administrative tasks such as record-keeping and documentation, which affects classroom teaching. The new appointments are expected to help teachers focus more on academic activities.
Additionally, the civic body will recruit 300 sanitation workers to improve cleanliness and hygiene in school premises. The tender process for these appointments, estimated to cost about Rs 7 crore, has already been completed.
Along with the new CBSE schools, the municipal corporation is also planning to establish 10 e-learning schools equipped with digital education systems.
At present, PMC operates two e-learning schools, which receive strong demand from parents each year due to their technology-enabled learning environment.
Civic officials expressed confidence that these initiatives will improve educational standards in municipal schools and attract more students to the public school system in the coming years.
