Pune, 19th August 2025: Passengers in Pune have raised serious complaints against ride-hailing platform Uber, alleging that drivers are demanding inflated fares far above the app’s displayed rates.

Social media users highlighted instances where Uber drivers openly demanded ₹32–₹35 per kilometer, nearly double the standard app fare. One user, Deepak Tiwari, described the situation as a “scam” and “daylight robbery,” accusing drivers of either forcing commuters to agree to the higher rates or cancelling rides if passengers refused. He tagged Uber India on X (formerly Twitter), warning that failure to address the issue could invite legal consequences.

Another commuter, Prasad Potale, shared screenshots of a chat with an Uber driver who insisted on charging ₹35 per kilometer for a Maruti Wagon R. Potale criticized the “arrogance” of drivers, questioning how such pricing could be justified.

In one of the shared conversations, the driver refused to cancel the ride despite the passenger’s request, instead demanding that the passenger cancel and bear the cancellation charges.

Users are urging authorities to step in and regulate ride-hailing practices in Pune to protect commuters from exploitation.
