Pune: Controversial Balbharti To Paud Road Project Details To Be Made Public On PMC Website
Pune, 12th April 2023: In an effort to increase transparency and involve citizens in the decision-making process, the detailed project plan of the controversial Balbharti to Paud road will be made available on the Pune municipal corporation (PMC) website, as per the assurance given by Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar to a delegation of the Maharashtra Navnirman Janadhikar Sena (MNS).
The MNS has been opposing the proposed road, which is estimated to cost more than 250 crores and will result in the cutting down of nearly 1400 trees. While the road is supposed to reduce traffic on Chiplunkar Road (Law College Road), the benefits of this alternative route have not been clearly stated by the Municipal Corporation.
MNS General Secretary Hemant Sambhus emphasized that Pune’s city development plan with land use plan should be completed keeping in mind the available facilities and their expansion limits. The infrastructure worth crores of rupees should then be planned after estimating the traffic, with the entire planning process being made open to citizens.
In light of these concerns, the Municipal Commissioner has promised to release the project information and expert opinions on the municipal website, which will allow citizens to have a say in the decision-making process. As the detailed project plan is set to be made available in two days, citizens will soon be able to examine the proposal and provide their feedback.
