Pune: Cook Who Stole Rs 22 Lakh From Senior Citizen’s House Arrested

Pune, 24th September 2022: On Saturday (September 24), Swargate police arrested an accused who stole Rs 22 lakhs from the house after gaining trust by working in the house as a cook. The accused has been identified as Mukesh Maharaj, a resident of Sukhsagar Nagar, Katraj, Pune.

A 65-year-old businessman living in Salisbury Park has filed a complaint at Swargate Police Station.

Mukesh Maharaj alias Mularam Jandu has been working as a cook for senior citizens since 2020. He is in their house from 8.00 am to 9.00 pm. Once a year he used to go to his native place Rajasthan. He lived like a member of the family hence, everyone trusted him.

Suddenly, Mukesh told that he needed to go to his village as his wife’s health is very bad and left on the night of September 9. Thereafter, as the complainant needed money, on September 11, he went to his bedroom locker to withdraw Rs 30 lakh but only found Rs 8 lakh in the locker.

The complainant inquired from everyone but everyone denied it. The complainant then inquired Mukesh, who had suddenly gone on leave about his returning plans. Then Mukesh stated he will come to work from September 16.

Suspecting his words, the complainant called his friend and inquired. The friend said that Mukesh had not gone to Rajasthan but was staying in Pune only.

Likewise, the complainant was sure that the money was stolen by Mukesh. Therefore, he lodged a complaint against the accused with the Swargate Police. The police registered a case and arrested Mukesh Maharaj on Friday (September 23) night.
