Pune, 24th September 2022: The old flyover at Chandani Chowk is scheduled to be demolished on October 2. Considering the traffic at this place, this bridge will be demolished at midnight. Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh has called a meeting with officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), representatives of the company that will demolish the flyover, and traffic police on Tuesday (September 27). Actions to be taken after demolishing the flyover will be planned in the meeting.
NHAI has planned to demolish the old flyover at Chandani Chowk. The work has been assigned to a Delhi-based company that demolished the twin towers in Noida. Accordingly, this company has made preliminary preparations before demolishing the flyover.
The necessary preparations for demolishing the flyover have been completed and the rain has also stopped. Therefore, it has been decided to demolish the bridge on October 2.
Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh said, “Controlled explosion will be done to demolish the bridge. Therefore, the citizens near the area will have to be temporarily relocated. Apart from this, a joint meeting of NHAI, the flyover demolition company and traffic police have been called on Tuesday to make necessary arrangements to pick up the debris falling after the flyover demolition and to solve the timely problems. It will be comprehensively planned.”
“Before demolishing the flyover, wide publicity will be given through media, including social media, so that the drivers who travel through this place every day do not face any inconvenience,” he added further.
Meanwhile, Chandani Chowk has heavy traffic every day. After the demolition of the flyover, the traffic here will be diverted by an alternative route. The bridge will be demolished at midnight on October 1 or early morning on October 2.
A controlled explosion will be done to demolish the bridge. For that, the work of making holes in the flyover has already been completed. The administration also said that the explosives required to demolish the flyover will arrive in Pune on Saturday (September 24).
