Pune Corporator Raghavendra Bappu Mankar Waives ‘Salary’, Donates to Mayor’s Fund for Needy Patients
Pune, 10th February 2026: Newly elected BJP corporator Raghavendra Bappu Mankar from Ward No. 25(B) in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced that he will not accept the monthly honorarium and allowances entitled to him as a corporator. Instead, he has requested that the entire amount be transferred to the Mayor’s Fund to support financially weak patients in the city.
Mankar, who was elected in the 2026 PMC general elections, submitted a formal letter to the civic administration stating that he would not draw any salary or benefits under Section 19(A)(1) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, 1949. He urged the administration to credit the amount every month to the Mayor’s Fund so it can be used for medical assistance to underprivileged residents of Pune.
His decision has drawn praise from across political and social circles, with many calling it an example of ethical politics and public service at a time when citizens are demanding greater accountability from elected representatives.
Speaking about his decision, Mankar said that politics, for him, is a means of serving society.

“The post of corporator gives me the strength to serve people. The trust that citizens of my ward have placed in me is more valuable than any honorarium. I do not feel right taking money that comes from taxpayers,” he said.
He added that his decision is a small attempt to repay the faith shown in him by voters. “Many poor patients struggle to afford medical treatment. If my honorarium can help even a few of them get timely care, that will give me real satisfaction. Public money should always be used for public good,” Mankar said.
The Mayor’s Fund is used by the Pune Municipal Corporation to provide financial assistance to economically weaker patients for medical treatment, surgeries and emergency healthcare needs.
