Pune: Corporator Serves Legal Notice to PCMC Over Suspension of Live Telecast of General Body Meetings, Warns of Approaching Court if Civic Body Fails to Act
Pimpri-Chinchwad, 15th June 2026: Corporator Sandeep Waghere has served a legal notice on the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) administration over its decision to discontinue the live telecast of General Body meeting, warning that a public interest litigation (PIL) will be filed in the Bombay High Court if the service is not restored within 15 days.
Addressing a press conference in Pimpri on Monday, senior advocate Asim Sarode and corporator Sandeep Waghere said live streaming of key civic meetings is essential to ensure transparency, accountability and public participation in local governance.
In the notice issued on behalf of Waghere, the civic administration has been asked to immediately resume live telecasts of all General Body and special meetings. The notice cites provisions of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act, 1949, Section 4 of the Right to Information Act, 2005, and state government policies promoting digital governance and transparency.
Waghere also demanded that proceedings of Standing Committee meetings be made available to the public through live broadcasts.
The notice further seeks preservation and public access to archived video recordings of previous General Body, Standing Committee and special meetings. It argues that citizens have a fundamental democratic right to know how elected representatives and civic officials conduct public business.
The administration has been given 15 days to respond and take corrective action. Failing that, Waghere said, a PIL would be filed before the Bombay High Court seeking directions to restore the live telecast facility.
The move comes amid criticism from residents, social activists and various organisations following the discontinuation of live streaming of civic meetings.
