Pune: Residents Demand Garden, Compound Wall for Amenity Plot in NIBM Annexe
Reported by Shoaib Tadvi
Kondhwa, 15th June 2026: Residents of Archana Kohinoor Glory, Raheja Sterling, and several neighbouring housing societies in the NIBM Annexe area of Mohammadwadi have renewed their demand for the development of a public garden on an amenity plot at Survey No. 38, alleging that the reserved land has been neglected and turned into a dumping ground.
Ward No. 41 Corporator Nivrutti Anna Bandal has written to the Pune Municipal Commissioner, urging immediate action to clean, secure, and develop the plot for public use.
According to the representation submitted by Bandal, the amenity space is currently littered with garbage, construction debris, and other waste materials. The absence of a protective compound wall and an official Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) amenity reservation board has allegedly left the land vulnerable to misuse and encroachment.
Highlighting the rapid residential growth in the locality, Bandal said the need for accessible green spaces has become increasingly important.
“It is unfortunate that a plot reserved for public amenities has been allowed to deteriorate into a dumping yard. The Pune Municipal Corporation must immediately clear the waste, install an amenity reservation board, and secure the land with a compound wall. The long-term solution is to develop a well-maintained public garden that can serve thousands of residents in the NIBM Annexe and Mohammadwadi areas,” Bandal said.
Residents said the neglected condition of the plot has become a persistent concern and is adversely affecting the neighbourhood environment.
Asad Shaikh, a resident of the area, said, “This amenity plot was meant to benefit citizens, but today it has become a dumping site. Waste and debris continue to accumulate because there is no protection or monitoring. A public garden would greatly enhance residents’ quality of life and provide much-needed green space.”

Echoing similar concerns, resident Sunanda Gujrathi said the shortage of open spaces is becoming increasingly apparent as the area’s population grows.
“Families, senior citizens, and children need safe and clean public spaces. The civic administration should prioritise the development of this amenity plot and prevent its further misuse. A garden here would benefit the entire community,” she said.
Another resident, Aniket Gosavi, said citizens have been awaiting action for years.
“The land has remained neglected despite repeated demands from residents. Developing a garden would improve the surroundings, enhance environmental sustainability, and ensure that the amenity reservation serves its intended purpose,” he said.
Residents further pointed out that no official PMC signboard indicating the reservation status of the plot has been installed, creating uncertainty and raising concerns about the future of the land.
Bandal has urged the civic administration to undertake an immediate clean-up drive, install the mandatory amenity reservation board, construct a compound wall, and initiate the process of developing the site into a public garden.
Residents expressed hope that the Pune Municipal Corporation would act promptly and transform the neglected amenity plot into a green public asset for the rapidly growing NIBM Annexe-Mohammadwadi neighbourhood.
