Pune Corporators Lobby for ‘Their Own’ Officers as PMC Politics Returns to Wards
Pune, 10th February 2026: With the administrator’s rule ending and the elected body returning to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), political lobbying has once again picked up pace over the posting of key officials in city wards. Corporators are pushing for “their own” officers — especially junior engineers and assistant health inspectors — to be appointed in their constituencies to ensure smoother control over development work and civic services.
Soon after the election results and the mayor’s appointment, corporators have begun exerting pressure on the administration. The aim, political circles say, is to keep ward-level offices under their influence to manage public complaints, development projects and the use of funds according to their priorities.
Sources in the civic body said transfer proposals, recommendation letters and direct negotiations have already started. Junior engineers, who play a crucial role in handling road works, drainage, water supply, electricity and building projects, are seen as especially important. From preparing estimates and measurements to monitoring the pace of work, engineers control every stage of execution.
As a result, there is open demand for officers who will “work on time and as instructed.” In some cases, officials themselves are reportedly approaching corporators to secure favourable postings.
Similarly, assistant health inspectors, who oversee cleanliness, garbage collection and sweeping operations, are also in high demand. Corporators are following up with the General Administration Department to replace officers who did not follow political directions during the administrator’s tenure and instead appoint those considered “efficient and cooperative.”
