Pune Court Orders FIR Against Mayor Murlidhar Mohol, Then Stays Order
Pune, 9th December 2021: A judicial magistrate court ordered registration of FIR against Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol and others for allegedly removing the doors of a women’s toilet in the Paud Fata area of Kothrud, forcing residents to leave their homes and move to other places.
Based on a complaint from Devidas Bhanudas Oval of Sheelavihar Colony, Paud Fata, Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Janhavi S Kelkar on December 7 directed in-charge of Kothrud police station to register the case and investigate as per provision 156 (3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
Besides Mohol, the order was against contractors Vasant Chavan, Rahul Shivaji Shinde of Kothrud and an unidentified person. The complainant had demanded registration of case for offences under relevant sections of the Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe (Prevention of Atrocity) Act.
It is alleged that Mayor Mohol, a corporator of the area, along with three others conspired to remove the doors of the toilets on October 20 with the help of some persons. The complainant and others, who are from scheduled caste, alleged that the act of Mohol and others have brought difficulty to women going for answering call of nature.
Accordingly, the court has directed the Kothrud police to register a case against the four including Mohol.
However, Mohol filed an application through his lawyer and brought some facts to the notice of the court. Accordingly, the court has stayed the order and issued notice to the complainant as to why this order should not be recalled.
When contacted Mohol said, “There are two toilets in this neighborhood. Proper procedure was followed to remove one of them for the road work. There is a resolution of the Women and Child Welfare Committee. As the house of Javed Sheikh also came under the road work, he had been instigating people. A case of obstructing public servant from discharging official duty is already registered against him.
While the demolition of toilets is an administrative task, I have nothing to do with it. There is a conspiracy behind this. After bringing facts to the notice of the court, the FIR order has been stayed.”
