Pune Court Sentences Man to Six Months Rigorous Imprisonment for Kidnapping Minor Girl
Pune, 17th August 2024: Additional Sessions Judge S.R. Narawade sentenced a young man to six months of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹15,000 for kidnapping a minor girl by luring her into marriage. If the fine is not paid, the court ordered an additional three months of imprisonment, and ₹10,000 from the fine amount is to be given to the girl.
The convicted individual, Vinod alias Vinayak Suresh Chavan (age 20, resident of Gokhale Nagar), committed the crime on the morning of 22nd October 2011.
The minor girl had left her house that morning, claiming she had a school program but did not return home by late evening. Concerned, her parents went to the school, only to learn that no such program had been organized. Later, the girl contacted her parents, saying, “I have come to Nashik. I will return after four days.” However, when her parents tried to reach her again, her phone was switched off. They filed a missing person report with the police.
The police investigation revealed that Chavan had the girl under the pretext of marriage, leading to his arrest. A charge sheet was filed against him, and Public Prosecutor Sanjay Pawar presented testimony from four witnesses. Based on the testimony and evidence, the court sentenced Chavan accordingly.
