Pune: COVID positive woman patient molested in ICU ward by PPE wearing accused

Hadapsar, 2 August 2020: Pune City Police have arrested a ward boy at a private hospital in Hadapsar, for allegedly molesting a Coronavirus disease (COVID19) woman patient who is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital.

 

According to senior police inspector Ramesh Sathe, the incident took place around 6 pm on Friday. “A man wearing a PPE kit approached the complainant’s bed. He asked if she recognized him by taking off his face mask. When she declined, he molested her. The woman raised an alarm, a girl came there identified him as Ashok and he fled from there”, said Inspector Sathe.

 

Based on a complaint from the 35-year-old woman, an FIR has been registered at Hadapsar police station against Ashok Namdev Gawli (40), a resident of Wadgaon Sheri. He has been arrested. He worked as a ward boy at the hospital. Police officers and staff had put on personal protection equipment (PPE) kit and had recorded the statement of the woman inside the hospital.
