Mulshi, 25th December 2023: A routine arrest operation took a perilous turn on Sunday when a wanted criminal, Mangesh Palve (32) from Rihe village in Mulshi taluka, deployed his pet pitbull to deter law enforcement officers.

Palve, known for his criminal history, created a chaotic scene by breaking the windowpanes of his residence and even resorting to violence, smashing a beer bottle on his own head. The standoff concluded only when Palve, realizing the severity of the situation, surrendered, fearing potential police action.

Assistant Inspector Sudhir Kadam from the Paud police detailed the events, stating that Palve, who faces charges including murder, attempted murder, and possession of illegal firearms with the Pimpri Chinchwad police, had recently been released on bail after being booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime (MCOCA) Act.

The police received information on Saturday about Palve’s involvement in an armed robbery, where he allegedly stole Rs 11,000 at gunpoint from a person in Rihe. Upon reaching his residence the next morning to effect his arrest, Palve unleashed his aggressive pitbull, creating a formidable obstacle for the police team.

Faced with the threat of the unleashed dog, the police, unable to enter Palve’s residence, contemplated summoning a forest department team to tranquilize the animal. However, the situation took an unexpected turn as Palve was apprehended around 11 am, averting the need for additional measures.

Further investigations revealed additional criminal activities by Palve on the preceding day, including another robbery and an assault with a sharp weapon. Consequently, a separate case of attempted murder is being registered against him.

Palve was presented before the court on Sunday and has been remanded in police custody until Tuesday.
