Pune: Cyber Cell Arrest Two Nigerians For Stealing Cash After Hacking ATM System

Pune, 27th May 2021: The officials from the Cyber police station of Pune city police have arrested two Nigerian nationals for allegedly stealing cash from ATM centres. The accused used to hack the system and withdraw all notes of Rs 500 denomination.

Based on the complaint from a bank, police have arrested David Charles Alies Ugochukwu Charles Nwachukwu (30) and Kehinde Sadiq Idris (29), who currently reside in Undri. They were arrested on the night of May 25. A court has remanded them to police custody till May 30 for further investigation. The cops have seized 10 mobile phones, four laptops, one two-wheeler from their possession. David had two passports, police said.

According to police, the accused used to remove the network cable of the ATM and connected it to an additional device with them and hack the system. They used to insert ATM cards and give input for withdrawing Rs 1000 notes. However, as the ATM did not have Rs 1000 notes, they used to withdraw all the Rs 500 notes.

After the bank realised the fraud, an FIR was registered with the Shivajinagar police station. Later it was transferred to the Cyber police station. After technical analysis as well as based on CCTV footage, the cops nabbed David. Later his accomplice Idris was also arrested.

The action was taken under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ashok Morale, DCP Bhagyashree Navatke, ACP Milind Patil and Senior Police Inspector S Hake. The team included Inspectors Kumar Ghadge and Machhindra Pandit, PSI Ravindra Gawari, Padwal and police personnel Nitesh Shelar, Anil Pundalik, Navnath Jadhav, Rajkumar Jaba, Shahrukh Sheikh, Nilesh Landge, Dinesh Markad, Sachin Waje, Yogesh Vhaval, Anup Pandit, Jyoti Diwane, Puja Mandale and Sunita Jadhav.
