New Delhi, 27th May 2021: While talking about the vaccine availability in the country, a member of the NITI Aayog, Dr Vinod K Paul said that four new vaccines are coming soon to India. He informed that while increasing the production, the Central Government is also preparing to vaccinate one crore people every day. Amid complaints of lack of vaccines from the states, he said that the state governments were procuring 25 percent of the total production.

Dr Paul said, “States know our vaccine production capacity. When they said they wanted flexibility in vaccine procurement, the new system was introduced – the central government would purchase 50 percent of the vaccines produced in the country, these are also the ones that would be given free of cost to the states and would be used for people who are forty-five or above of age. The remaining fifty percent of vaccines would be purchased by the state governments and the private sectors.”

“The Centre is allocating enough vaccines to the states as per the set guidelines in a transparent manner. The states are being informed about the availability of the vaccine in advance. It is also important to understand that vaccine availability is set to increase in the near future making a much larger supply available. States receive 25 percent dose while private hospitals receive 25 percent dose. Though, the difficulties and problems faced by the states in delivering these 25 percent doses to the people are considerably exaggerated”, said Dr Paul

Concerning the pace of vaccination, Paul said, “We need planning in order to apply 10 million doses every day. It will be possible in the next few weeks. We should take it to 73 lakhs in the next three weeks. We need to create a system to achieve this.”
