Pune 10th August 2023: As the Pune Municipal Corporation has started distributing the national flags to the citizens under ‘Har Gar Tiranga’ campaign the issue of defective flags has struck them again as many flags were rejected by the ward offices due to faulty designs. According to reports, a total of around 12,000 flags at each ward office were rejected due to defects on August 9 when the campaign kicked off in the city.

A total of 5 lakh flags will be distributed this year of which PMC will bear the cost of 2 lakh flags while 3 lakh flags will be provided by the central government. The PMC has now demanded 1.5 lakh more flags from the central government to replace the defective flags. According to officials, Ashok Chakra has not been printed properly on many flags.

Similar issue was reported last year when thousands of defective flags were received from the central government. Many of those flags had printing mistakes while some of them had stitching issues. The issue had sparked controversy and political parties in the city had protested against the government.

The officials at the PMC’s ward offices have now segregated the flags at their level and defective ones are being returned before they start the door to door campaign to distribute these flags from today.
