Pimpri, 25th August 2023: Developments in and around Pimpri have drawn attention recently, encompassing a range of subjects including the establishment of an impure water abstraction station near the Bhama Askhed dam, mechanized road cleaning, objections concerning road work along Telco Road, and grievances about an allegedly overpriced tender linked to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Dudulgaon.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has strongly criticized the BJP, vowing a comprehensive audit of these initiatives. He also advised the authorities to exercise prudence and avoid hasty decisions regarding the tender process for the proposed 750-bed hospital in Moshi.

Following his assumption of the role of Deputy Chief Minister within the Shiv Sena-BJP coalition state government, Pawar embarked on a tour of Pimpri-Chinchwad on Friday. During this visit, he engaged in a three-hour review meeting with municipal officials to discuss ongoing development projects within the city. Key attendees included Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh and Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale.

Pawar underscored the presence of corruption allegations in various projects undertaken by the municipal corporation. He pledged to thoroughly investigate these claims and take appropriate actions if any malfeasance is uncovered. He acknowledged that the administration had received complaints and inquiries related to specific works, with some matters even being brought before the court.

Pawar assured that a comprehensive inquiry would be conducted to ascertain the veracity of these allegations. Notably, he emphasized the importance of equitable development across all constituencies, cautioning against concentrating efforts solely in Bhosari. Asserting his commitment to the city’s advancement, he pledged accelerated development for Pimpri-Chinchwad during his tenure.

Regarding the contentious Pavana closed water channel project, Pawar clarified that efforts would persist. A court-appointed committee had proposed closing the pipeline for eight months while sourcing water from the river for the remaining four. However, this endeavor was halted during the previous Chief Minister’s term. Pawar expressed his intent to petition the Chief Minister for the lifting of this moratorium, following which the Municipal Commissioner would take appropriate action.

During the meeting, Shiv Sena MP Shrirang Barane and BJP MLAs Mahesh Landge, Ashwini Jagtap, and Uma Khapare reportedly chose not to participate. Responding to this, Pawar explained that he had not extended invitations for the gathering.

Addressing the Avishkar Nagri (Science City) project, which necessitates 35 acres of land, Pawar highlighted that both central and state governments were contributing funds to its realization. However, due to spatial constraints within the city, an alternative location in Mundhwa has been identified. He acknowledged that the central government’s involvement would hinge on the availability of adequate space.
