Pune, 8th July 2021: To increase the revenue, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a discount in the property tax scheme. Under this scheme 10 per cent of concession to arrears.

Despite this concession, about 92,000 taxpayers did not pay the tax.
This year the PMC collected Rs 170 crore as property tax from 56,000 citizens out of 1.49 lakh taxpayers.  Yet a huge number of taxpayers did not pay the tax and it’s become a challenge for PMC to collect tax from these arrears.

Every year, PMC provides 5 to 10 per cent concession for taxpayers between 1st April to 31st May. This year also the concession was given, but due to a financial crunch, many citizens were not able to pay the tax in a given period therefore PMC has given a one-month extension. From April to June 2021, PMC collected Rs 914.27 crore taxes from 5.95 lakh people.

Speaking about this Vilas Kanade, head of the property tax department of PMC said, “We expected that people would pay the tax during the concession period; unfortunately, a huge number of people did not pay it. Taxpayers have to pay the tax in future and PMC officials are following up the matter.”
