Pune: Discharge from Khadakwasla Dam Increased to 3,883 Cusecs; Officials Urge Caution Along Mutha River

Pune, 24th June 2025: Authorities have increased the discharge from Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha river basin to 3,883 cusecs as of 9:00 AM today, up from the earlier release of 684 cusecs. The step has been taken as part of regulated dam management amid ongoing monsoon rainfall in the catchment area.
In an official notice issued by Mohan Bhadane, Sub-Divisional Engineer of the Mutha Canal Irrigation Sub-Division (Swargate, Pune), the public has been cautioned that water release may be revised again depending on the intensity of rainfall and changing water levels in the dam.
“The discharge is subject to change depending on the volume of rainfall received and seasonal requirements,” the statement read.
Residents and commuters near low-lying areas along the Mutha riverbanks have been advised to stay alert and avoid entering or crossing the river during this period.
Khadakwasla Dam, a critical water source for Pune city and its surrounding regions, sees routine adjustments to its discharge during the monsoon to maintain reservoir safety and downstream flow management.
