Pune, 1st May 2023: Pune district has once again emerged as the top-ranked district in Maharashtra in the disposal of cases by Lok Adalat. This marks the tenth consecutive time that Pune has achieved this position.

In the National Lok Adalat organized across all courts in the district yesterday, a total of 121,177 cases were settled, including 16,646 pending cases and 102,119 pre-litigation cases.

A total of 59,317 pending cases and 155,757 pre-litigation cases were put up before the Lok Adalat. Out of these, eight cases related to domestic violence were settled, and both parties were reportedly happy with the outcome.

The Lok Adalat also saw some innovative measures being taken to ensure access to justice for all. For instance, in two cases before Senior Civil Judge J.S. Bhatia’s panel, some parties could not attend court due to personal reasons. These cases were therefore discussed via video conference and settled through amicable compromise.

Another significant achievement in the Lok Adalat was the resolution of the first digitally e-filed case in Maharashtra. The case was a Motor Accident Claims Authority case on Judge SR Navandar’s panel, and it was decided entirely paperless. In another case on the same panel, parties who were in Tirupati participated in the Lok Adalat via video conference and settled their case, illustrating the principle of ‘justice at your door.’

Additionally, the Lok Adalat was held outside the courtroom in some cases to ensure access to justice for disabled litigants. For instance, in two Motor Accident Claims Tribunal cases, parties were unable to enter the court building due to disabilities. Therefore, Judge SR Navandar himself came out of the courtroom and handed over a compensation cheque to the petitioner.

Principal District and Sessions Judge Shyam Chandak praised the efforts of the Zilla Parishad in settling cases related to Gram Panchayat. The support provided by the Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad Ayush Prasad and Deputy Chief Executive Officer Sachin Ghadge was instrumental in the resolution of these cases.

The achievement of Pune district in the Lok Adalat marks an important milestone in ensuring access to justice for all. The Lok Adalat has become an important platform for the settlement of cases.
