Pune District Collector Sets Deadline for Ring Road Project; Land Acquisition in 36 Villages to Be Finalized by Year-End
Pune, 30th November 2024: The land acquisition process for Pune’s much-anticipated ring road project, involving 36 villages across the district, remains incomplete. To expedite progress, District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase has directed officials to finalize the acquisition of all remaining land by 31st December 2024. This directive was issued during a review meeting attended by sub-divisional officers and land acquisition authorities.
During the meeting, it was revealed that 80% of the land acquisition for the eastern section and 98% for the western section of the ring road has been completed. However, unresolved issues in several villages are delaying the project.
In the eastern section, pending compensation and land acquisition affect six villages in Maval taluka, five in Purandar, five in Khed, and 13 in Haveli. For the western section, parts of Mulshi taluka, three villages in Haveli, and one village in Bhor are yet to be acquired.
The incomplete acquisitions impact land across five critical talukas: Maval, Purandar, Haveli, Khed, and Bhor. To address these delays, officials have been instructed to seek farmers’ consent wherever possible. In cases where consent is unattainable, compulsory acquisition methods will be employed. Additionally, awards for acquisition must be declared without delay, and direct land purchase agreements finalized promptly.
Dr. Diwase emphasized the urgency of completing the acquisition process to ensure the project’s timely progression. “We need to accelerate efforts and resolve these issues immediately to meet the December-end deadline,” he stated.
The ring road project, designed to alleviate traffic congestion and improve connectivity around Pune, is a critical infrastructure initiative. However, delays due to incomplete land acquisition have hindered progress, making swift resolution a priority for district authorities.
