Unpaid Property Taxes: Pune’s PMC to Auction 42 Seized Properties on 10th December
Pune, 30th November 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced the auction of 42 properties that were seized due to unpaid property tax arrears amounting to ₹11.11 crores. The auction, scheduled to be held online on 10th December, is expected to generate proceeds valued at approximately ₹58 crores based on the market value of the properties.
With PMC’s property tax arrears surpassing ₹10,000 crores, the municipal body has intensified its efforts to recover unpaid dues. Over the past few years, the PMC has been confiscating and sealing properties with outstanding dues, averaging 1,800 to 2,000 confiscations annually. The majority of these properties are commercial establishments.
Despite repeated notices to defaulters, many property owners fail to respond or settle their dues. To address this issue, PMC initiated the process of auctioning confiscated properties without pending court disputes last year.
In 2023, the PMC had auctioned 56 properties, but only two were successfully sold, recovering approximately ₹4 crores. This year, the administration has decided to auction 42 more properties to collect outstanding dues and address the growing financial shortfall.
